‘Heaven’s Above’ indeed

(Backstage at The Pope’s Visit at Hyde Park: ‘The Priests’ were the only ones to have their own dressing room. Not even the Bishops (not a musical group) got their own…)

Most badly written newspaper article of the day goes to Patrick Foster’s piece in today’s Times on the religious groups nominated for this years Classical Brit awards. The nuns of the Abbaye Notre-Dame de l’Annonciation are nominated for their album Voices: Chant from Avignon and ‘The Priests’ for their album ‘Noel.’  The journalist speculates whether the nuns  are likely to attend the award ceremony –  they are in an enclosed order but l am sure the allure of the bright lights of fame will tempt them to leave their cloisters… He then goes on to explain that the nuns ‘rehearse their chants for five hours each day.’  ‘Rehearse’?!!!  I say nothing…
