Tomorrow at 7.30PM EST (that’s 12.30am for us in the UK) Archbishop Thomas Wenski will celebrate a Pontifical Solemn High Mass for the feast of Candlemas at the Church of the Epiphany, Miami, Florida. The Liturgy will include the distribution of candles for the Feast, as well as a procession of the clerics around the interior of the church. You can watch it on LIVE MASS, live or repeated the following day at 12.30pm EST which is 5.30pm for us.
All the details are available on the Musica Sacra Florida site.
My friend Dr. Jennifer Donelson who teaches at Nova Southeastern University is directing the Women’s Schola Cantorum.
Here is a fantastic behind-the-scenes photo of the schola during rehearsals (taken by Jennifer.) We need more women singing the chant in the UK.. Come and join our women’s schola, Schola Scholastica!
Jennifer has also put up some photos of rehearsals for the Mass.
I was listening to an interview Jennifer did yesterday for La Paz radio, a Spanish radio station. She talked about the importance of Gregorian Chant not just being a ‘wellspring of culture ‘ but the importance of looking at how we can present it in our modern culture; how we can develop a continued sense of creativity in modern composition whilst still maintaining a sense of its beauty and holiness. During the Mass tomorrow we will hear some music specially commissioned for the celebration which embraces this notion of working within the Gregorian tradition from Zachary Wadsworth and Dr Paul Webber.
